Jig-Bee Flower Farm

Cosmos Bright Lights Seeds

Tender Annual

Description

Cosmos sulphureaus

A mix of orange and orangey-yellow cosmos. These 2-3" semi double Cosmos add pops of color to any garden or arrangement and can also be used as a natural dye. Grows 3+ feet tall for me in Vermont. Harvest when buds are just cracking. Vase life of the blooms is about 5 days but buds will continue to open and the pods look really cool too. Very popular with floral designers as long as you harvest branching stems with a range of maturing buds.

    Planting Instructions

    SOWING:

Transplant: Seed 4-6 weeks before last frost. Direct sow when soil has warmed

Germination Requirements: Barely cover as some light aids germination

Days to Germination: Germinates in 7-10 days at 68-72°F (20-22°C)

    GROWING:

    Light Preference: Sun

    Plant Height: 40-48 inches

Plant Spacing: 6-12", Wider spacing creates stronger, thicker stems; I plant at 6”

Pinching: Pinch the plant when 8 inches tall to increase branching

Flower Support: These stems are a little more rigid and may not need additional support

    Days to Bloom: 60-75 days

    HARVEST AND VASE LIFE:

    Yield: 4-6 stems

Harvest Fresh: Harvest when buds are just cracking. Vase life of the blooms is about 5 days but buds will continue to open and the pods look really cool too.

Expected Vase Life: Expect a vase life of 5 days.

    USES:

Cut Flower, Natural Dye, Garden Beds, and Beneficial Insect Plantings
